Marietta GA real estate is the county seat located in central Cobb County. It is the largest city with a total population of about 62,000 residents. It is Atlanta’s largest suburb and the fourth largest city in the Atlanta metro area. Early settlers began settling and building homes back in 1824. The Oakton house is the oldest continually occupied residence in Marietta. The original barn, milk house, smokehouse, and family house are still on the property. The Oakton house build in 1838 is listed as one of the national historic places in the country. In 1892, Marietta established its public school system, which continues to this day. Marietta has seen more history in just a couple of decades than most towns see in a century.

Historic Districts


Marietta is home to six historic districts. Most of the districts are in the National Register of Historic Places. These include Northwest Marietta, Whitlock Ave., Washington Avenue, and Church Cherokee Streets. One can find the city’s visitors and Welcome Center in the historic train depot in downtown. Speaking of downtown, the town square is the former location of the county courthouse. The square features several cultural productions in public events and a weekly farmers market.

Parks and Rec


The town has many parks for residents, their guests, and visitors. Folks of all ages can get involved in classes, sports programs, and other activities. Marietta encourages and invites residents to use the many pavilions and field rentals. Youth leagues abound for the kids to get involved. Sprayground Pavilion is a popular spot for kids and families in Elizabeth Porter Park. It is available for private rental, parties, picnic pavilions, and more. Other parks include Victory Park, Tumlin Park, Merritt Park, Laurel Park, Henry Park. There are many sports fields such as the Tumlin use fields and Franklin Gateway Fields. Lawrence Street Recreation Center and Custer Park sports and fitness center are indoor facilities.
