About Marietta GA
Marietta is the county seat located in central Cobb County. It is the largest city with a total population of about 62,000 residents. It is Atlanta’s largest suburb and the fourth largest city in the Atlanta metro area. Early settlers began settling and building homes back in 1824. The Oakton house is the oldest continually occupied residence in Marietta. The original barn, milk house, smokehouse, and family house are still on the property. The Oakton house build in 1838 is listed as one of the national historic places in the country. In 1892, Marietta established its public school system, which continues to this day. Most of the other schools in Cobb County are operated by the Cobb County school district. Marietta has one high school, a middle school, the sixth-grade Academy and several elementary schools.
